2020 Western Canadian Regional
Due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the inaugural Western Canadian Regional Pickleball Championship is being rescheduled to July 23 to 25, 2021. Same location – The International Trade Centre, Regina, SK.
We wish to thank our sponsors for their support and the over 200 players who registered to take part this year, even in the midst of a pandemic. We look forward to seeing you next summer - save the date!

Pickleball Canada Organization (PCO) is now responsible for membership applications. For Saskatchewan members, the annual fee is $15 of which $5 goes to PCO, $5 goes to your club, and $5 goes to Pickleball Saskatchewan ($10 if no club selected). For New applications and renewals click here Note - Players should be sure to select their local affiliated club. Membership in a local affiliated club will provide access to local Pickleball programs and keep them informed of all things Pickleball in their area. |

Training / Volunteers
Pickleball Regina has been awarded the Western Canadian Regional Pickleball Tournament to be held July 24- 26 2020.
Quite a few more Scorekeepers and Referees are required for the 2020 tournaments - especially for the Western Canadian Regional tournament. If you are interested in taking training that will be offered in early May, 2020, please contact Karen Rust at rust_karen@yahoo.ca
Assuming there is sufficient interest, courses will be provided in both Saskatoon and Regina. We are looking for sponsors for the event. If you have names of people or businesses we may approach, we would appreciate hearing from you. Please contact Reg Lakness (laknessr@gmail.com).

2019 Indian Wells Margaritaville nationals
Success at USAPA Nationals
Recently, we had a good contingent at the Margaritaville USAPA Pickleball National Championships at Indian Wells, California. Congratulations to everyone that attended, played, officiated or cheered! You did a super job of representing us in Saskatchewan. Special recognition to our winners:
• Jane Powell (Regina) – gold in women’s doubles, 3.5 for 65+years; Bronze in women’s singles, 3.5 for 65+ years
• Pam Clarke (Regina) and Deana Mainil (Weyburn) – silver in women's doubles, 3.5 for 19+, 35+ years
• Pam Clarke and Dave Clarke (Regina Beach) – silver in mixed doubles, 3.5 for 35+ years
• Mike Ruecker (Regina) and Dave Clarke (Regina Beach) – bronze in men’s doubles, 3.5, for 35+ years

The inaugural Western Canadian Regional Pickleball Tournament will provide Open as well as Skill (and Age) based competition and be played indoors on 24 courts over three days. This is a Pickleball Canada sanctioned tournament that will use IFP rules.
Registration will open at 6:00 p.m., Central Standard time on April 6
Location: International Trade Centre, REAL

Tournament Information:
• Only residents of the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia or the Yukon or Northwest Territories are eligible to participate in this Regional Tournament. Residency is established by providing a valid health care card or drivers license at check-in. Additionally, they must be members of their provincial pickleball association (if one exists) and Pickleball Canada.
• The two-year-old facility is air-conditioned and has LED lighting throughout. There is lots of room for vendors, spectators and participants. And, no worries about the weather disrupting play!
• Registration runs from April 6, 2020 to July 10, 2020 and will be limited to the first 200 players for each day.
• Registration will open at 6:00 p.m., Central Standard time on April 6
• Players may enter a maximum of 3 events and may only enter one doubles, one singles and one mixed doubles.
• Registration must be completed online at www.pickleballtournaments.com
• Enter as a team or look under 'Players Needing Partners' to find a partner
• In the case of wait lists, in doubles events - teams will take priority over individuals. Our goal is to accommodate as many people as the schedule will allow - but at the same time have a well-rounded tournament with representation from all skill levels.
• The International Federation of Pickleball rules will apply.
• The tournament ball will be determined by April 6, 2020
• Referees will be compensated $5 per match; Certified Referees referees $7 per match. We encourage participants to take referee training in order to offset their entry fees and keep the tournament running smoothly. Non-participants with the appropriate training are also encouraged to referee.

• Player's age as of: 12/31/20
• Minimum Age of Player: 12
• Registration Opens: 04/06/20 at 6:00 p.m. CST
• Final Registration Deadline: 07/10/20
• Registration fees - $40.00 plus $15.00 referee surcharge plus $20.00 for each event entered
• Complimentary tournament tee shirt
Format:
• Skill groups: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and Open (limited to skill level 4.5 and up)
• Age ranges:
• Singles: 12-34, 35-49, 50-64, 65+, Open
• Doubles: 12-18,19-34, 35-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+., Open
• Your tournament age is the age you will become in 2020.
• Entrants are required to use their UTPR 2-digit skill rating, as of the date of registration.
• If you do not have a UTPR then you are required to use your current club or tournament rating. If you are not rated, consult with other players and visit the PCO website for ratings information: https://www.pickleballcanada.org/ratings.php
• Please make sure your player profile on pickleballtournaments.com accurately reflects your current rating before registering for this tournament.
• Events will be double elimination with each match being best 2 out of 3 games to 11 on the “A” side of the draw. On the “B” side of the draw each match will consist of one game to 15. Players are guaranteed three games.
• The minimum bracket size is eight teams. Age brackets will be combined if the number of entries does not support separating brackets by age.
• The tournament committee reserves the right to place players in their appropriate skill level category and to combine brackets based on registrations.
• Medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each (combined) bracket.

New Horizons Grant
Our proposal to the New Horizons program has been approved. This is a $25000 grant to develop Pickleball in Saskatchewan. The timeline is from Feb. 15, 2018 to Feb. 15, 2019. There are three parts:
1) giving demonstrations
2) providing equipment
3) provide instructor training.
